About
first generation
Schultz Custom Wall was founded by Jack and Elvera Schultz and is now a third generation family business. Jack began pouring foundations in 1961 and poured 26 foundations that year. Each year after, he doubled the total foundations poured from the previous year. In 1965, Jack and Elvera Schultz decided to incorporate their growing business.
Second generation
Jack and Elvera’s son, Denny, began working at Schultz Custom Wall around age 11, and when Denny graduated from the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in 1976, he came back to Harrison to continue working for his father. Denny obtained his Professional Engineering license in Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana by 1983 and took over the day-to-day operations of Schultz Custom Wall in 1984.
third generation (present day)
Denny’s son, Louis, began working at Schultz Custom Wall at the age of 12. When Lou graduated from Purdue University in 2002, he returned to Harrison and went back to work at Schultz Custom Wall the very next day! In 2005, Lou took over the day-to-day operations of the business when Denny was diagnosed and began treatment for cancer. Thankfully, Denny is doing well and is still involved in Schultz Custom Wall on a daily basis.
Denny and Lou have both worked their way through the company. They started at the bottom, sweeping floors and cleaning trucks, and worked their way up to owning and operating the business. Denny Schultz loves what he does. He happily says, “I start people’s dreams”, referring to pouring the foundation of their dream home.
Denny remembers their busiest year was in 1987 when they poured 27,000 yards of concrete. Schultz Custom Wall felt the sting of the economic crisis that began in 2009, as new home building drastically reduced. They managed to survive the hard times and are seeing business increase again. Currently they pour about 10,000 yards of concrete per year.
